My son, a junior in college, is spending second semester studying in Europe. He and the group of American students that he is with are currently on a travel break. I knew they were going to be in Rome for the first part of their travels but wasn't sure what day they were moving on to another city. When the announcement came from the Vatican yesterday that a new Pope had been announced, I hoped that he was still there and in St. Peter's Square watching.
This afternoon he checked in via e-mail and said that yes, he and his friends had been there and seen it all. It was a short e-mail and I'm still waiting for details, but he said it was "amazing." It's so rare to actually be in the right place at the right time, isn't it? I can't wait to find out more.
